Off Course is back this week with a fantastic show and this is episode 274. Hosted by Dan Edwards, each Friday he gives you a deep look into the world of golf and equipment in a way unlike any other podcast has done before. Today, Eric Stubben from Odyssey Golf, joins the show in a fascinating conversation diving into the design of putters and their latest release that just dropped the S2S Tri-Hot lineup.
It wouldn’t be Off Course without some tangents, but Dan and Eric dive into many topics including some of Eric’s favorite putter designs ever and challenging what is possible with Ai and metal. This show has a lot going on and is one you will not want to miss as Eric Stubben goes Off Course.

Episode 274 is here and Dan and Eric discuss the following topics and a whole lot more.
Eric’s history with Odyssey
Favorite putter designs and gamers
The S2S Tri-Hot critical features
Challenging what is possible with Ai and metal
The careful balance of Odyssey insert familiarity
Getting loud with Odyssey red
And so much more

I listened to this on YouTube and then again in the truck on the way to the course. I have no doubt now with the tech and time included that this will be the way for the Grandaddy. I am thinking Jailbird.

Anodization of the color red vs PVD makes so much sense now

It absolutely POPS in hand because of that, too.

I cannot wait for them to get you into the putter fitting room and for you to challenge them that all putters are the same. 😉 :p
For real though, you are in for SUCH a treat.
The color definitely seems wild. I love that they went for it because they could.

And they didn’t paint it so it could actually be a premium finish

I’m exited to see this in hand
75%-85% of the market being mallets is wild to think about.
Also, I just know there has to be a fun story to go with a Hong Kong Golf Club polo and I want to hear it.

Made me wonder the breakdown of blades and wider blades as well. They’ve had a 1W or a DW in every release for years now. Wondering how much those break in to true blade numbers too because I would never go less than 1W or a DW at this point now
Oh also, as a Tigers fan I am playing a very tiny violin for Eric’s Marniers.

That’s a good point. I wonder if a wide blade gets counted towards mallet numbers in any way.

Finally got to sit down and watch this in full and man am I excited for Tri-Hot. Just based on the fact that Eric was talking about tape and screws has me thinking they took no days off on this iteration. I will be stopping by the PGA SS after my lesson Tuesday and I’m hoping they have them in.
This one got a little techy. I enjoyed it.
That was a great listen @Canadan. I am looking forward to seeing these. I never loved the way the S2S looked to my eye. I dont know if it is the insert but they look like they have a ton of loft. It sounds interesting the way they got the shaft closer to the face.
thanks for tuning in, gents!
Really good podcast, hearing about the R&D process is really cool. It’s extremely fascinating. I wonder if this years Grandaddy team will get their hands on any tour items not swiped up by tour pros!

Yep. I have personally seen with other brands how quickly and easily red paint can be chipped and it’s not a good look when it happens. I love how much thought went into every aspect of this line.
Had some windshield time today and was able to catch up on this one. There’s a lot of really cool insight into the putter world on this one.
Something like testing 72 different variations on the insert compound?
Yeah, it’s all “marketing”. ??
He could have gone on another hour, that was a good one!!
Listened to this one last week and really enjoyed it. It’s fun to learn about the motivation behind the design and the extra cost that goes into some of the tech/design decisions.
