Since the brand made its debut way back in 2016, EVNROLL Putters have maintained their initial surge of popularity thanks primarily to their SweetFace technology. While the shapes and stylings have changed over the years, that tech has been the key to the performance consistency that EVNROLL users have come to demand on the greens.
Although there is certainly an aspect of “if it isn’t broke, don’t fix it” there, after nine years, EVNROLL believed that they have finally managed to improve the tech, and they are debuting version 2.0 today with the release of the new Origin lineup of putters.
EVNROLL ORIGIN Putters

In recent years, EVNROLL has not been afraid of expanding their offerings. Whether via aesthetic and material changes, or even their most recent leap into the world of Zero Torque, there is always a unique balance of paying attention to the trends while staying true to their core technology with SweetFace.
So, as you might expect, for EVNROLL to be willing to finally evolve that keystone tech which they are built upon, there has to be some definite performance improvements.

Originally designed by Guerin Rife (yes, that Rife), the key behind SweetFace was the use of not just a grooved hitting surface, but a uniquely designed one. By having the grooves be wider in the sweet spot but narrowing as they worked to the edges of the strike area, Rife found that there was a dramatic improvement in dispersion on misses. The variance in the groove width not only retained more consistent distance control across the face but also helped redirect misses down the target line thanks to the unique v-shaping.
In testing, it not only worked, it worked staggeringly well, becoming not only the foundation to EVNROLL, but also being mimicked by a few other brands in their own ways. Even still, there were areas in which the brand knew they could improve, and with time and investment to testing new variations, they arrived at SweetFace 2.0.
EVNROLL ORIGIN – SweetFace 2.0

While the name might not be the most innovative, the science behind it certainly is. Step one for the new design was the move from straight grooves to a wave like pattern. According to EVNROLL this reduces the vibration at impact and has made for even softer feel/feedback to the user. So as not to get too soft though, each of the Origin models now have a thicker area from the face to the cavity to retain some solidness.

An interesting note on the wave pattern versus the traditional straight grooves is in what they are calling the “dimple effect”. This was a situation where at times a dimple location impacting the straight grooves could lead to some unintended performance effects. By moving to a wave shape, they claim that the randomness of the wave will cancel out the randomness of dimple location on strikes to keep a more consistent roll all of the time.

Most important though is the move to reduce the groove depth by 50% from the original SweetFace (0.010” to 0.005”). This reduced what the company refers to as “dwell time”, or how long the ball is in contact with the face. By keeping the parabolic face design, but decreasing the depth, the internal testing has shown the same distance and speed retention benefits, but with a quicker overall roll.
EVNROLL ORIGIN – Shapes
Beyond the new face, each of the Origin shapes are fully machined and milled from 303 Stainless as well as 6061 Aluminum within one of the models. The focus was not just on shapes but ensuring that the CG of each head would be located in the precise center of each putter. Additionally, EVNROLL remains adamant that as length of putters change, so too should the head weight, so each model of the Origin lineup also utilizes adjustable sole weighting.

The full lineup consists of four different models. In more traditional shaping, the ER2 is a double wide blade and the ER8 offers a compact mid-mallet look which has grown in popularity. For the mallet fans, the ER5 is EVNROLL’s take on the fanged design, while the ER10 is the most technologically modern offering of the Origin lineup combining stainless and aluminum into a design which maximizes MOI.

The Details
EVNROLL is adamant that with SweetFace 2.0, they have found a definitive performance gain on the greens from what was already a very performance driven lineup in the past. This is something that THP will be testing very soon, so be sure to stay tuned for more on that in the near future.
The Origin lineup of putters officially come to retail 12/1/25 with each of the four shapes coming only in single-bend shaft orientation, but also in both RH and LH in all models. More information can be found at www.EVNROLL.com.

This is a fortuitous nudge as I actually just had the Origin out on the course for a round today working on the review.
Honestly, the feel off the face is really nice. Finish quality is ok, but the stability is the standout here to me for sure.
I’ll get some in hands up here this evening or in the morning!

How would you describe the feel against their past face?

Honestly, this one shocked me on the greens this past week. The roll is good. The feel is excellent. More than that though, it’s truly super easy to align.
I can’t help but feel awfully underwhelmed by evnroll the last few years.

You know, for the mostly I agree. Since they were acquired, things have definitely changed.
That said, the 10 is better than I expected, by a lot.

I’d go a unique debate on this.
Look at LAB and the construction and materials used. Similar or same. One has face tech and one does not.
so if I’m looking at a zero torque putter, made using aluminum and a few other metals, it would be hard pressed to argue one vs the other

The 10 isn’t a ZT putter though, so it’s kind of apples to oranges, no?
Love me some Evnroll putters! I can get down with the 360 waves on the putter face too.

The feel is right in line with the previous version of the Sweet Face, so the acclimation would be pretty straight forward imo.

It could also be that we have seen other brands seemingly take more meaningful steps forward? Or perceived meaningful steps forward.
I never owned one, but never felt that massive urge to own one either.
I don’t even know what more I would expect from them or what I feel is missing from making me have that drive or desire to test, try or buy one.

I guess I’m confused, I wouldn’t really compare the two (LAB and this) since they’re doing really different things. I get the multi material construction aspect versus not though.
If this was one of the EVNROLL ZT options I’d be more on board for sure, though they’re super wild visually themselves.
Nice thing is lots of face tech stories out there for sure, and I’m a fan of most of them.

Awesome pictures JB. Thanks for sharing them.
I have a couple of the Evnroll Midlock putters and like them a lot. I think Evnroll has been a bit overlooked in the putter game. I do agree that I didn’t love their ZT type putters. I am looking forward to seeing some of the new ones and giving them a roll.
Thanks.
While i’m not really the target for these, I do think there could be something there if people like the face

Agreed, I was concerned with the construction of this one, it’s a lot of aluminum and a shape that can sometimes be tuning fork like, but it was true to what I’ve known EVNROLL to be instead. Quite nice.

Nah, I think given the models it doesn’t really gain them anything, plus, they’ve for a lot of bend models which makes it kinda difficult.
That said, I think an ALL-IN retro on the 10 could be kinda fun hahaha

Absolutely, plus, it’s one of those things I think many of us here would be excited about, but it wouldn’t necessarily be a benefit for EVNROLL to do unless it’s an upcharge option.

That would be a great inside look on for a brand like EVNROLL as to how often they have explored that and how close they have come to potentially offering it and what are some of the core reasons they decide not to.
Agree it is something we would love, but I would imagine a good majority of their purchasers are just as happy or wouldn’t even really notice much of a difference between a stock or a $100 upcharge shaft other than the price.

Interesting. I wonder if the new face changes it. Either that or we have different perceptions of the sound. Something always felt a little off for me on their old face. I’ll be interested to experience it once I find one in a store.
I am very interested in the 10, but can’t find it in either my local PGA Superstore or Golf Galaxy.
I’m tempted to “buy it before I try it,” but it’s a little too expensive to take a random chance on.

Just ordered an Origin ER8! Haven’t seen them in person yet, so a bit of a gamble.
I had an ER1 from the original release many years ago, but could never get comfortable with how slow the ball came off the face since it was totally unnatural for me. I’m excited for this one though if the ball speed is faster like they are saying.
While the face tech is probably legit, I’m actually more intrigued by the shape, the slight toe hang, the half shaft offset and the overall look which ticks all the boxes for me. If ball speed seems intuitive, then I think I could be very happy with this and the face tech would just be an added bonus!
